BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
Circular horizontal dial.
This is a very poor quality dial with a good quality gnomon. The hour lines are incorrectly delineated. They show no understanding of how to mark a horizontal sundial. Please pay them no attention.
The gnomon is a replacement made in 2002 after vandalism.
The motto on the dial reads: "Tyme Tryeth Trothe" [Time tests faith]. A motto on the pillar reads: "Horas Non Numero Nisi Serenas".
A stone slab placed in 2000 to the east of the dial lies over a time capsule. It is inscribed HERE LIE/THE HOPES AND FEARS / OF THE PEOPLE /WINCHESTER 2000.
Note that a modern dial by David Harber (SRN 4563) is nearby.
