BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is in the south-east part of the churchyard. It is a memorial dial to the Radio Pioneer Gerald Marcuse. It shows 4am to 8pm in half hours, using XII and IIII. The numerals are in line with hour lines and read from inside the chapter ring. No noon gap. Inscriptions mark radio milestones in the pioneer’s life and three direction arrows point to significant places of first radio contact: River Amazon 1925; California 1924; New Zealand 1925. Inscriptions describe further events.
