BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Co-op Stores, Bishopthorpe, York

A restored stone vertical dial over the main door of the Co-op Stores. The motto reads: "Tempus Labile". [Gliding time]. Mrs Gatty, 1889, p309 mentions a slab with the date 1691. A photo of 1890 shows this with the initials T.P.M. which may stand for Thomas and Mary Pindar who lived in one of the cottages. This slab is no longer present and the Co-op store was built in 1950. Roman numerals VI - XII - IIII - VI, with hour lines to raised horshoe-shaped area around gnomon root; half and quarter-hour marks.
