Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Althorp House (2), Althorp

The dial is on the lawn neaqr the north-east wing. It is engraved ’G & C Dixey / Opticians to the King / 3 New Bond Street London’. Earle (see Ref below) says that it also bears the name and date Frederic Spencer, August 1842. Shows 4am to 8pm in 30, 10 and 2 min intervals on outer scales and quarters on a single inner time scale. Uses IIII and XII. Numerals read from outside. Split noon. 16 named compass points. Watch faster/slower EoT scale. Lat N5217. Maker also reported as G & C Davey. Dial appears (fr photo) to be post 1752. The dial was formerly at Harlestone House, Northants, on a different pedestal. Earle shows it there (opp p 218) and also at Althrop House (p 219), and appears to believe the photos are of two different dials. She also states that it tells the time in various parts of the world, possibly confusing it with SRN 2760. Ref: Sundials & Roses of Yesterday, Earle, NY,1902.
