The dial is mounted on the wall of the south aisle, and replaced an earlier one of 1792. This one is made of Leicestershire slate, four feet by four feet. It was delineated by the Rev M Ward, and made by H C Mitchell. The gnomon was made by S Hilton. The cost was £16 1 3, the most expensive component being the cutting and gilding at £5 10 0, followed by the slate itself at £4 0 0 . Upright numerals VI - XII - IV - V, divided to quarter hours. It is marked with the latitude, 52 38 30, and the declination, East 8 19. In a central rectangle is a summary of the EoT at 16 key dates, with zero on Apr 15, June 15, Sept 1, and Dec 25. Along the gnomon base is ’Sun in plane of gnomon at 18m 18s past XI’.
