BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St. Mary and St Bega Churchyard, Whitehaven

The circular dial is inset into a square capital. Engraved in the corners of the capital are WB, IR, IW and the date of 1649. Hour numerals are VII - XII - IIII - V, read from inside the dial, with a noon gap, and divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes. A cursive script inscription at the south of the dial is now not legible, but it might mention Will Simpson. The gnomon is broken but the base is still left. All set on an octagonal section waisted column on a three step square plinth.
