BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Colan’s Church, Colan

It is far from easy to distinguish the features of this slate dial over the south porch because lichens have colonised large areas of it. It is a vertical south dial showing VI to VI divided into halves and quarters. The date 1724 appears at the top, just above a seven-pointed star which is not centred on the gnomon root. The iron gnomon is worthy of notice since the style only is straight, other edges being serrated to avoid confusing shadows.
