BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Cornwall

This dial is outside the churchyard and, as is almost inevitable when a horizontal dial is in a vulnerable position, it has suffered damage and abuse. It shows IIII to VIII divided into eighths of an hour and the edge near the morning IIII has been nibbled away. Part of the copper (? brass) dial plate appears to have been sandpapered. The date,(?) 1708, is still visible though it has been read as 1705. The dial is mounted on a granite column 1150mm high, and has a partly decipherable motto of ’Umbra….sic…..postre…..fecit’.
