BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Victoria Public House, Kirkby Malham

The Victoria was built in 1840 and the dial is located over the door, with the date ’MDCCCXL’ inscribed across the top. Below the date and inside the chapter ring is inscribed "Lat 54° 10’ N Lon. 2° 4’ W". All numerals, lines and lettering are inscribed and were originally gilded, as was the cast brass gnomon. In 2001 the dial plate was painted white but by 2020 the paint and gilding had disappeared and restoration is now planned. The dial has upright hour numerals VI - XII - IIII - V, with hour lines to a large semicircle inside the chapter ring, and half hours in the chapter ring marked with a detail at the outer end. The hour lines pass through the hour numerals. The gnomon is on the noon line (though the time scale suggests a declining dial) and is elaborately cast in the form of a cornucopia pouring out grapes with extensive surface detail. See the reference for entertaining detail of the origins of the dial. Ref: The Book of Sun-Dials, Gatty, 1900, p128.
