BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Coach House, Nelson

The dial is a vertical one, mounted on the wall of the Coach House of Marsden Hall which lies in its own park to the north-east of the town of Nelson. It has been canted strongly eastwards so that the dial plate faces due south. Times are shown from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm with 30, 15 and five minute divisions, and, unusually, every quarter on the well-marked face has its own Arabic numeral. The motto above the arched dial plate reads: "Test well Thine heart, Thy will, Thy Words, Thy Way And the True Lght will guide to Glorious Day". The ornately pierced bronze gnomon is substantial and a noon gap has been left on the dial to accommodate this.
