BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Churchyard, Makerstoun

A fine dial with a central 8-point rose and EOT. It shows hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside, delineated to 15 and 5 minutes inside the chapter ring, and to 2 minutes, labelled in tens in Arabic, outside. The gnomon is similar to that of SRN 2519 at Smailholm, Roxburghshire. On the dial plate is inscribed ’Presented by Lieut. Gen. / Sir Thos Makdougall Brisbane Bart. / FOR THE PARISH CHURCH OF / MAKERSTOWN 1841’.
