BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Chirk Castle [NT], Chirk

The dial is in the gardens near to the house. It is mentioned in the Nat. Trust guide book on p37. The dial plate is engraved with a compass rose, flowers, and the motto ’I mark only the shining hours’. Interestingly, there is no noon gap marked to allow for the thickness of the gnomon. The gnomon is ornate and in very good condition. It is of the same design as that on the other dial at the castle, SRN 2528, and is probably a copy.
