Dial in Hereford & Worcester

In the churchyard near the porch is a brass horizontal dial made in 1834 by Bate of London. Originating in Stourbridge, Bate became a scientific instrument maker of great repute, holding royal appointments to George IV, William IV and Victoria. The dial shows the hours from 4am to 8pm divided into halves, quarters and intervals of 5 minutes. An 8-point compass rose surrounds the root of the gnomon. The dial is mounted on a cracked plinth 1120mm high on which the date is engraved. The dial is 175mm in diameter.
