BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary Magdalene Parish Church, Woodstock

Large rectangular vertical dial high on the west end of the nave wall. The dial, which declines about 5 degrees west of due south, has a blank inner square surrounded by four rectangular rings. These, in succession, have hour lines and half hour fleurs-de-lys, quarter hour fleurs-de-lys and Roman hour numerals. These are deeply engraved and are aligned with the hour lines and read from outside/below the dial. The numerals render 7 as IIV and 8 as IIIV. This is not uncommon and is probably done for aesthetic reasons so that the broad stroke of the ’V’ can be parallel with the ’I’s. Noon has XII and 4pm has IIII. The plain, finger-pointed strip gnomon has two curly supporters. The dial is surmounted by a protective stone overhang and suported by two ornate corbels. Ref: Victoria County History of Oxfordshire Vol XII p413. Compare SRN 3746 (Town Hall, Woodstock).
