BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Hampshire

The dial is on private land but just visible from the street. It is set on an ornate square section tapered pedestal having circular moulded top and octagonal plinth with acanthus leaf décor, approximately 950 high. The dial shows hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside, with a noon gap, and divided to 30, 15 and 5 minutes. The centre is filled with an 8-point compass rose, labelled to NW etc. Across the north side is the motto ’I count the bright hours only’, and at the south is ’As a shadow / so is life’. The solid gnomon has a circular central support. The dial was probably installed when the garden was refurbished in 1912.
