BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Castle Howard House (2), Castle Howard

A horizontal dial located on the stone newel post of the balustrade of steps leading down from the South door. On part of the building which was completed in 1709. Shows 4am to 8pm in 30, 15, and in (possibly Arabic tens) 10 and 1 min marks. Noon gap. Uses XII and IIII. Numerals read from outside the dial. EoT scale partly visible though no detail can be discerned to establish pre or post 1752 date. Other furniture and a possible crest may be there too. Elaborate floral piercing to the gnomon.
