BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Capesthorne Hall front courtyard, Macclesfield

The dial stands in the courtyard of the main (SE) front of the house. There is a 32-point compass rose, fully labelled to NxE etc. 20 cities are marked showing their noon (in Capesthorne sun time). Roman hour numerals for 4am to 8pm, divided to 30, 15 and 10 minutes and to single minutes, numbered (Arabic) every 10. The dial stands on a poor three-legged artificial stone table, its legs being three legless irons. In the centre is a standard stone turned baluster. The table is too large, the baluster too small for the dial.
