BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Merchants House, Marlborough

Dial is located in a first floor window. Mottoes read: ’Dum Spectas Fugio’ and ’Sic Vita’. Possibly by Henry Giles of York or John Oliver, late 17th century. The Great Fire of Marlborough was 1653. The dial may have been installed during re-building. Shows hours 4am to 3pm in 15 min intervals. Uses Roman numerals, noon is marked with a cross and 4pm as IIII. Fly motif rebus with body drawn on inside and wings/legs on outside of glass. Recently (2003) poorly ’restored’ by fixing leads to the broken pieces. Gnomon calculations by David Brown.
