BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is inside the church for safe keeping. The dial consists of N, E and S dials only. The E gnomon is missing. There is a pedimented top to the dial block which is decorated with the Prince of Wales feathers. The East face shows 4am to 11am in hours with lines at incorrect angles. Incised over the S, E and N faces is the motto ’EUNDO HORA / DI EM / DEPASCIT’ (The hour itself consumes the day). The square column (an old font) is carved to represent the three marvels of Trelleck. Under the S dial is a representation of a tumulus, Terret Tump, inscribed over with ’MAGNA MOLE’ (In a great mound), and under with ’O QUOT HIC SEPULTI’ (O, how many buried here). Under the E dial is an illustration of Harald’s Stones (3 local standing stones that give the town its name, with their heights incised in feet, 8, 10, and 14) , incised over with ’MAIOR SAXIS’ (Greater in its stones), and incised under with ’HIC FUIT VICTOR HAROLD’ (Here was Harold victorious). Under the N dial is a representation of the chalybeate well incised over with ’MAXIMA FONTE’ (Greatest is its spring), and under with ’DOM. MAGD PROBERT OSTENDIT’ (Lady Maud Probert set (this) out for view). The dial was originally erected in the school grounds by the widow of Sir George Probert in 1689.
