Sundial House, Dunkeld

The dial is a stone block with a rounded top rising to a point, supported on a rough stone corbel set into the southern corner of the house at first floor level. It was first reported in very poor condition in 1989, but was restored in about 2013. In the peak of the main face is a four-petalled rose and below that are four curlicues. Next across the width is JOHN BALLANTINE / JANNET STEWART / 1 7 5 7’. In the lower half of the dial plate the hours VI - XII - IV - VI are inscribed with full length hour lines. The west face has hour lines fo 4pm to 8pm, 4, 6 and 8 marked at the front. The east face has hour lines for 4am to 9am, 4, 6 and 8 marked at the front, 7 and 9 at the rear. All three gnomons are present, being small unpierced iron plates.
