BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial is on a beautiful old building which is now the clubhouse of Chorlton-cum-Hardy Golf Club. It is mounted at first floor level on the inner side of the north wing, above the location of the original entrance to the house. According to the revered sundial authority Mrs Gatty, it is said to have been erected about the year 1574 by Alexander Barlow. The text across the top reads: ’LUMEN ME REGIT *1574 * VOS UMBRA’ (The light guides me, the shadow you). Unfortunately the building of an extension on an adjacent wing has taken some of that guiding light; but this dial, and indeed the whole of this venerable building, is excellently maintained and well appreciated.
