BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Lymm Cross, Lymm

Lymm Cross is a square pavilion, standing on an artificially stepped natural outcrop of red sandstone at the west end of Pepper Street. The gables of the east, south and west sides each contain a square sundial with a motto, and they read, on the east dial, ’We are a Shadow’, on the south, ’Save Time’, and on the west, ’Think of the Last’. All the dials have upright Arabic hour numerals, full length hour lines (right to the outer edge of the plate), and shorter half and quarter hour lines. The hours shown are east: 4am - 10am, south 7am - 6pm, west, 2pm - 8pm. All the mottoes and numerals are carved in relief. All three of the substantial gnomons are in good condition. Pevsner suggests that the date of the Cross is early or mid 17th century. This is one of the best of the Cheshire dials. Ref: Historic England No 1227014.
