BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is set above the old entrance door on the southern side of the building, previously Queen Elizabeth School.
The upright Roman numerals run from 6am to 5pm with noon as XII and 4 as IV. There are full length hour lines and half-hour ticks. A wide semi-circle, centred on the gnomon root, crosses the hour lines. There is evidence of changes in position of hour lines (3pm & 4pm).
The copper alloy ribbon gnomon has a curved support.
A stone below the dial is inscribed ’EL.IZ. REG. HUJUS SCHOLAE FUNDATRIX’. Beneath this is a window and below that a stone recording in Latin and Roman numerals that the dial was restored in 1851 &1987. There has been further restoration in recent years as the gnomon was repaired sometime before 2005.
