BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Minster Abbey, Minster

This vertical direct south dial is on the chimney of Minster Abbey and was restored in 1856. Its motto reads: ’Tempora labuntur quae nobis pereunt et imputantur’. (Time glides by which perishes for us and is reckoned). The motto and numerals were no longer discernible in 2002. The hour lines were just visible. It shows 6am to 6pm in hours. The Abbey is open occasionally. Dial (just) visible from road - go past St Mary’s Church to view the chimney through the iron gates in the wall on left. Follow the road round to the back to gain a closer access. Ref. Sundials & Weathervanes, 1994, PIC Bookshops. ISBN 87370501 8.
