BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial is located at the top left of the south facing wall, under the eaves. The motto across the top reads: ’Life’s But a Walking Shadow’. The dial declines 4 degrees west, and shows 7am to 6pm in 5min marks - perhaps less. Noon is marked as XII and 4pm as IIII. Half hour lines are marked with fleurs de lys. There is a blue border with white/gold lettering. The style bears a ball nodus, but additionally an eye nodus, giving a line of light in its shadow near noon. At noon on the summer solstice this falls over a painted spot in the border around the inscription (see ref and illustration). A plaque beneath the dial reads: ’This is Life eternal that they may know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.’ A further plaque on the outside wall [in the road next to the Cathedral] refers to Julian Calendar.
