BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Swan Hunter Shipyard, Wallsend

Motto: ’Harum dum spectas cursum respice ad novissimam horam’, and put into English below as ’Watching these fleeting hours soon past Remember that which comes at last’. Also ’Lat 54 58’, and the date ’AD 1881’. Photo (a) at the entrance to Wigham Richardson’e Neptune shipyard. (b) the dial in Swan Hunters joiners shop. (c) The dial after purchase by friends (including BSS members). It is here held outside their premises by the President of the Pen & Palette Club. Richardson was a member shortly after the Club’s formation in 1900. The Club still flourishes. Mrs Gatty, 4th ed 1900, p 269.
