BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Peter’s Church, Appleby

The sundial is fixed to a mediaeval apex stone in the churchyard wall. It is low and situated on the east side, above a stream opposite the pub. The gnomon toe is in the centre of the plate, and just a low tongue of the gnomon remains. Hours 6am to 8pm are shown with Roman numerals read from the inside, using IIII for 4, with hour lines but no subdivisions. No motto, date or maker is visible. Royal Comm on Hist Monuments Westmorland HMSO 1936.
