BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is mounted high on south face of the Guildhall, below the roof-line.
The arched dial-plate has a gilded sunrise with many wavy rays in the arch above the motto, which is on top of the dial face. There is a gilded scroll moulding below lower edge. The dial is laid out with black hour lines on a blue ground with black letters on a dark purple chapter ’ring’.
It shows 7am to 5pm in upright Roman numerals. Noon is XII and 4pm IIII. There are no subdivisions between the full length hour lines. There is no noon gap.
The thin strip gnomon with ’S’ supporter has its origin on the top border of the face.
Motto reads: "Resurgam", which can be translated as: "I shall rise again".
