BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

11 High Street East, Uppingham

The dial is mounted on the wall above the entrance to the rear of adjacent shops. The site was formerly the Unicorn Pub. The dial has a moulded surround, and may be of wood; it has now been painted over, but details can still be distinguished. Horseshoe shaped chapter ring with upright Arabic numerals for 6am to 6pm, each number in a disc. Hour lines to crescent moon around the gnomon root, and short half and quarter hour marks. Inscription across the top which is now illegible, but which Mrs Gatty records as ’Improve the time 1765’. Oval cartouches in bottom corners. Thin gnomon rod now bent and support broken. Ref: Gatty 1900 p 293.
