BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial is painted on stonework at first floor level on the south facing corner at the east end of the building. It is said to have been installed 1n 1874 by the bookseller Charles Matkin who lived at this address. The motto ’Tempus Fugit’ across the top was unreadable by 2019. Upright Roman numerals for 7am to 5pm, 4pm IIII with cross patty for noon, and no subdivisions. Gold numerals and letters outlined in black. Blue lines on white ground. Semicircle at gnomon root.
UPDATE: The dial was repainted in 2024.
