BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Calke Abbey [NT], Ticknall

The dial is near the south front. There is a trace of a compass rose but it is virtually gone now. The dial shows 4am to 8pm in 30, 15 and probably 10, 7.5, 5 and 1 min marks. Split Noon. Uses XII & IIII. Fleurs de lys markers for half hours. Date may be earlier (the South Front is 1701). Interesting double ’S’ gnomon supporter. Nice octagonal leaf decorated baluster pedestal with octagonal capital, and large three step octagonal plinth.
