BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
This striking set of six dial faces comprises arguably the best sundial in Cambridge. Replacing at least one earlier dial, it was erected over the Gate of Honour to mark the fourth centenary of the refounding of the College by Dr Caius in 1557. One side is open to view from Senate House Passage but the other side is restricted.
Two Fellows of the College, Dr. Powell and Dr. Message, were closely concerned with the design and lay-out. The casting of the dial plates was carried out by Birmingham Guild Ltd.
