BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Leonard’s Church, Balderstone

This is a large dial of great merit, though needing careful restoration. It lies in the south corner of St Leonard’s churchyard. The motto reads: "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom", and the peripheral inscription reads: "In Memory of the Revd J Arthur Rushton MA...etc". The dial plate shows times from 4am to 8pm, with cardinal points and a central sun. There is a large, pierced but slender gnomon. The dial is supported by four circular columns with one wider central column, on an octagonal base; despite this it is sinking slightly. Restoration has in the past been undertaken by "F Barker & Son, Dialists, London".
