BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Lancashire

The dial was dedicated by the churchwardens. The motto: ’Horas non numero nisi serenas’ surrounds the dial on a separate metal ring, or on another larger dial underneath. The dial was reported stolen in Nov 1999, but was present in May 2010 so may have been in restoration. The plinth is worth viewing, with its own motto on a spiral ribbon: ’Day is Thine, the night is also Thine’. The date was reported in 1992 to be 1779, but is given as 1736 in Lancashire: Liverpool and the South-West by Richard Pollard and Niklaus Pevsner, 2006.
