BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Church of St James, Woodplumpton

An unusually large incised dial on the south wall of the church. The motto carved into the parapet above reads: "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi". There are aligned numerals VI - XII - IIII - V, and short hour lines with half hour marks between. The gnomon is an elegant slender rod, probably bronze, with a straight support, and there is a star outline around the gnomon root. The church was extended on the southern side in the mid 18th century so the dial may date from then. It was restored in 1935 by Pilkington and Gibbs, when the lines, originally painted, were incised and painted black.
