BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial can be found on the N side of the A709, 300 yards from the town centre. It was moved here from the town centre and is now under trees - though correctly set up and aligned. Cube dial surmounted by ball finial. Shows various hour ranges (which include half hours) - details not recorded. (From photo: Arabic numerals: E face shows 4am to 11am in half hours; S face shows 6am to 6pm) The pedestal is called the Mercat Cross approx 3000h, and is dated at the base as late 16th C: the dial is presumably later.
