BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Mercat Cross, Fettercairn

The dial is on one face of a cube, very weathered but with the date visible. The date is on the North face, with a lion rampant on the W face and initials EIM (of 1st Earl of Middleton) on the E face. It may have been moved here in 1670 from Kincardine. The octagonal supporting shaft has punishment rings (’for tying bad women to’) and a Standard Yard (Ell) length mark (37.5 ins). It stands on six octagonal red sandstone steps.
