BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Tayside Region

The dial has rings for Local time, London and Paris time and also for the EoT. If the EoT scale is the same date as the dial then it is probably one of the earliest dials to give EoT. (The EoT was only tabulated by Flamsteed in 1672 and Huyghens in 1665 but J Davis (2003) feels that on this dial the EoT scale may have been added later). No details of the time scales have yet been recorded. The gnomon was restored by G Higgs on 14.04.87. The dial stands on a cylindrical red sandstone baluster pedestal on square block and shallow step. Ref: Ancient Sundials of Scotland, AR Somerville. Rogers Turner Books, 1994 p98.
