BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Borders Region

This is part of a four-tiered dial from Polton, Midlothian. It stands on an elegant baluster about 2 ft high, not the original. It consists of a cube dated 1685 with hexagonal block above, both carved from one piece of sandstone about 1.5 ft high, with vertical dials on all faces and a horizontal on top with a good gnomon. Each face is edged with leaf carving. The cube is inscribed ’Latitude 55 6’, and has a hexagon with initials ’IA’ and ’IM’.
