BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Lothian Region

The dial block stands on its point on a moulded baluster which stands in turn on an octagonal block resting on a square base, on each side of which are carved winged heads. The whole stands on two octagonal steps, about 8 ft high overall. The dial is a sandstone polyhedron (cuboctahedron) about 1.5 ft high, with north and south faces vertical and bowl hollows and flat reclining and inclining surfaces above and below; east and west faces are each cut to a point giving four faces. There are dials on all available surfaces (14 in all). Lines are only poorly visible and the block is badly worn or damaged on the top and the east side. It is originally from Warriston House, nearby. Ref: A R Somerville, Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 117, 1987, "The Ancient Sundials of Scotland", p43 (D2).
