BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Bampton

Rectangular vertical south-facing dial high on the south transept of the church. The dial, which faces a little east of due south, has a heart shaped scroll around the gnomon root. Most unusually, full length hour, half and quarter hour lines run from the heart to the chapter ring. There are Roman numerals from 6am to 5pm. Those on the left (am) side are vertical, those on the right (pm) aligned with the hour lines. There is a cross patty for noon and IIII for 4pm. The ’V’ is read from the left. The east side of this dial appears to be much more worn than the west. The broad strip gnomon has an intricate ’S’-shaped supporter and interesting undercut end.
