St Mary’s Parish Church, Lower Heyford

Rectangular vertical dial declining a little west of south. The dial is prominently placed above the porch, set flush with the wall. It shows 6:30am to 6:15pm with long hour lines and quarter hour marks in a chapter ring. Outside this are large upright Arabic numerals, finely cut into the stone with small serifs. The motto above the dial reads: "Nil nisi coelesti radio" [Nought save by a ray from heaven]. The simple strip gnomon has a single straight horizontal supporter. The dial has no obvious ’noon’ gap, but the gap should be at the substyle which is between 12:30 and 12:45. It is hard to be sure whether these marks include a gap.
