St Mary the Virgin’s Church (1), Wootton nr Woodstock

Rectangular vertical south-facing dial on the war memorial in the churchyard. The dial is about 3.5m above ground level, atop a thin column. It has an arc below the gnomon root from which the hour lines radiate to the rectangular chapter ring. The noon line is duplicated either side of the gnomon, forming a noon gap. There are also shorter half hour lines. Around the outside are upright Arabic hour numerals for 6am to 6pm, with a noon gap. At the base of the column are various plaques, including two proclaiming the award of Best Kept War Memorial for 1981 and 1982 and "In 1995 Wootton remembered 1945". Note that a restored 1623 dial (SRN 3962) is above the church porch. This village is the Wootton north of Woodstock, not to be confused with other Woottons.
