BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
If you can find your way to the centre of the maze you will see this steel 4-ring armillary sphere, about 700mm in diameter. It shows the hours 4am to 8pm in gilt Arabic numerals. The hour ring is notched at the hours and the meridian ring is serrated. The rod gnomon does not project outside the sphere. The dial is mounted on a square section panelled pedestal. A motto on the pedestal reads ’ We come to God, not by navigation but by love’ and there are quotations from poems by Robert Gittings, Siegfrtied Sassoon and Mother Julian of Norwich. The dial dates from 1982.
