The dial is located in the lower fountain garden. It is a fine 18th century dial. It is engraved with an elaborate coat of arms having elephant and gryphon supporters and the motto ’Audacter et Sincere’. The coat of arms however is not the standard Herbert coat of arms which are shown on the Powis Castle gates. Also engraved on the dial plate is a 32 point compass rose with a very finely engraved infill. Other dial furniture consists of an equation of time ring and an inner chapter ring divided into 1/8 hours. The equation of time ring gives values in whole minutes, to fractional days. The Roman numerals are aligned and of the form IIII - XII - VIII. The gnomon width is allowed for with a with noon gap. The hour lines pass through the hour numerals numerals. The outer ring indicates minutes in Arabic numerals at 10s, with diamond 5s and Fleur-de-lys half hours. The dial is mounted on a fluted stone pedestal (460 diam) with a square core, and having three quarter round columns to each face, all on a square base.
