BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
The dial stands on a low wall opposite the house. The motto reads: "I stand amid ye summere flowers to tell ye passinge of ye houres". "Melville" "Londini" on ribbons in the top corners, and "Anno Dom" "1703" in the bottom corners. Two ring type of equatorial dial with hour ring rather greater than a semicircle. Rings fixed by single rivet to dial plate at centre of compass. No latitude adjustment and no statement of design latitude. Shows hours only. Dial mounted on a stone slab sitting on the wall. Gnomon is a strip of metal rather than a rod. Strange lack of detail for a Melville dial. Possibly Pearson Page 4235?. 4 hole fixing. DY slide S413 refers.
