BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Lothian Region

The dial stands on a square moulded pillar about 3 ft high. The date 1746 inscribed on the north side is clear but the owner thinks this may have been added later, which would agree with the 17th century ’look’ of the dial. It is a small facetted block, about 1.5 ft high, with north-sloping top with equatorial dial (no star); south-facing polar hemi-cylinder; other surfaces flat or with various-shaped hollows (east and west); north and south verticals; dials on all available surfaces; the south gnomon only present.
