BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Fife

The dial is a 19th century copy of the dial at Pitreavie (dated 1644) which is now at Inveresk Lodge Gardens (SRN 1216). It rests on a wide table on a square stone plinth bearing shields, while the plinth stands on a wide moulded base resting on four stone balls and another step - about 4 ft high overall. It is a small facetted block with north-sloping top with equatorial star; south-facing polar hemi-cylinder projecting down from top cusps of star; other surfaces flat or with various-shaped hollows; metal gnomons in east and west verticals; dials on all available surfaces. Unfortunately it is mounted 180° out. Ref: A R Somerville, Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 117, 1987, "The Ancient Sundials of Scotland", p22 (B9).
