BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Fife

The obelisk stands some 6-8 ft high on a shallow narrow base. The boss is separated from the shaft and finial by four stone balls in each case, probably inserted during reassembling at some time. The shaft is 180° out and the finial is 90° out. The shaft has four square panels on each side with very deep hollows and some blank panels. The boss is cracked. It is of the wedge type with no central band, the corners completely cut away, giving four inclining and four reclining dials. The finial has four panels, the dial surfaces raised. The dial was originally from Inverary. Ref: A R Somerville, Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 117, 1987, "The Ancient Sundials of Scotland", p16 (B3).
