BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Kirktonhall, West Kilbride

Shaft: 4 square panels on each side, hollows and verticals with dials, initials on the N side. Boss: Pointed type, with cup hollows between points on NW, NE, SE and SW; triangular, reclining and inclining dials above and below. Finial: 4 panels on each side, top has been mended. All metal gnomons missing. A plaque at the base gives the history of the dial, erected by Robert Simson (1687 - 1768). Initials IS and AS (parents of Robert) and date 1717 on dial with memorial shield. The Boss and the Shaft are out by 90 degrees with respect to one another. The house is at present derelict (Aug 2014) though there are plans for refurbishment. A R Somerville, Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 117, 1987, "The Ancient Sundials of Scotland", p12 (A13).
